Running Home

On the way home tonight from the store, the volume in the backseat became deafening and Chris pulled over the car and told the girls to get out. Granted, it was relatively safe, since we were already into our neighborhood, but I thought surely there would be screams of fear and tears and who knows what else... but there wasn't.

A little back story... last week, a friend of ours told us of how he'd once let their boy out of the car for bad behavior. In his story, it was night and dark and not near home. The boy was allowed back into the car when he agreed that all the bad behavior was over and would not come back again. It worked and the remainder of the ride was pleasant.

Chris and I agree that under the right circumstances, this method may work for us, as well. So, today was the day that the experiement was launched. The experiment failed miserably, but what did happen actually had a similar result.
So, we pick up the story where we let the girls out of the truck and onto the grass near the street entering our neighborhood. They decide that this is FUN and they would like to take it a step further and race us home. We are game, so we say go and they do. They start jogging through the grass, up into people's yards, through sprinkler systems, around garbage cans and past shubberies. They held hands for most of the way and we drove very slowly, not wanting to get too far away from their progress to the house. When the approached intersections, Skylar would hold Rhylan's hand very tightly and make certain there were no cars before draggiing her across the street, up the curb and into the next yard. We barely "beat" them home!

When we did arrive, they were ready for a bath and had really had a great workout!
