Well, we now have the 1st day of school behind us and all-in-all it was a great day. It started VERY EARLY - 5:45am, to be precise. Thankfully, Chris and I had decided that we should start our own days at 5:15, so we were up and ready for the early morning pajama party that ensued 30 minutes later in our room. They were both quite excited and couldn't wait to get their breakfasts over with so they could don their uniforms and make for the car. Our little fashionista, Rhylan, didn't even balk at the uniform she was told to dress in and things went smoothly with hair dos, too.
We arrived at the school very early to secure a parking spot and walk our two girls into the assembly area to wait for the morning announcements. They waited patiently - Skylar catching up with friends that she seldom saw over the summer and Rhylan chatting up the teachers and even seeking out their babysitter, who is in the 8th grade this year.
At 8am announcements were made, prayers were said and off the little children went to their respective classrooms. Rhylan barely spared us a glance and a flick of her tiny wrist as she trotted gleefully off to her first real day at school. Skylar, on the other hand, welled up with tears and couldn't be moved from her spot in her row until hugs were given and promises made that we would indeed miss her too and that we would return to get her at days' end. We didn't see that coming.

Chris and I went to the breakfast immediately following the assembly and enjoyed some conversation with other parents of Pre K and K students, who were embarking on their first days, too.
By all accounts, BOTH girls had wonderful first days and were excessively polite and used all of their best manners. They reported to us how well they both did and how their teachers commented on their very lady-like manners, which we have been working on ALL SUMMER LONG... maybe they are listening.
This morning started not quite so early and it took a bit more coersion to get them ready and it took even more explaining to Rhylan as to why she had to wear the uniform again. I guess 2 days of ease into school is maybe too much to ask...
