A Story About A Sleeper Sofa - Trash At The Curb

About 3 years ago, I found a sleeper sofa - circa 1963 - at an estate sale. I paid no more than $60 for it and for that price was actually able to negotiate delivery, since the sale was in our neighborhood. The sofa weighed at least 200lbs and was truly a monster that kept unfolding as they carried it into the house and down our narrow hallway. And in Chris' office it stayed for 2 years. Then, we moved it to my office, thinking it would be a better home for it. On the way to my office, which was literally only feet away, something inside the sofa broke and the piece was never the same. Still, it was a good nap couch and it remained another year in my office. Finally, in an effort to "de-clutter", we arranged for the couch to be hauled away. Normally, the refuse management associate told me, a couch is a find at the curb and would not last to the morning. Alas, the brown, orange and off-white plaid beast still remained the following morning until the truck arrived with not 1, not 2, but 4 grown men to man-handle it into their crusher. She was a good sofa and we will miss her.
