Well, I have no photos for today and really only re-told stories from the days' adventures. The girls went their seperate ways Saturday so Chris and I could get some progress made on the bedroom. We are so close to being done, but there is only so much painting a person can withstand without going brain dead or loopy - whichever comes first.
We dropped Rhylan off at my folks' house first, where she was spending the day with Aunt Traci, Uncle Martin, Gunnar & Winston - my folks being off to my Aunt Barbara Ann's house for the weekend to watch my Grandma Brand while Aunt BA and Uncle Ronald are at a family reunion. Anyhow, she was first, then Chris met his folks at IHOP for the drop-off for Skylar, she planning to have a day all by herself with them. So, this entry is essentially about the reports we received from the respective care givers.
Skylar enjoyed a much needed solo day with Grandma and Grandpa Jones. She has been acting out lately because she is not receiving ver much individual attention. We have maintained for a very long time - over 4 years to be exact - that she would have made a great only child, but alas, it was not meant to be. She basked in the attention doted on her by her grandparents all day long. They shopped, they played, they went to Market Street for some fun activities where she actually participated in a hula hooping contest. She received a paint-job (nails) and a puff (glitter powder) at one of the booths and received a nice pink balloon from another. There may have even been sweets, but I can't get that information out of her because she wanted a cookie last night and knew there would not be one if she had already had some sweets - smart girl. Back at Grandma & Grandpa's, she had an opportunity to strut her stuff at the swimming pool (per Skylar - "I swam in the pool without my arm floaties and didn't drown!!!") and she managed to color a masterpiece of Hello Kitty in the bedroom. By all reports, she was the model 6 year old who acted "mature beyond her years." We knew that this would be the case and were glad that Gma/Gpa were open to it.
Rhylan spent the day with cousins. When Chris & I left her, she and Gunnar were already at it. Gunnar has lately become a little territorial about his place at Mimi/Poppy's and is not sure he really wants "his girls" over there. Evidently, they worked it out and played fairly well together all day. Traci even reported that she was able to go to the store by herself, leaving all 3 with Martin. He made a fort for them out of blankets and things and left them to play/watch the tube from that vantage. True to form, Rhylan fell asleep in the fort. Traci reported that all of a sudden, the fort was really quiet, so she became suspicious and went to check on them. Instead of finding them "playing doctor", which she fully expected, she found that Rhylan was sound asleep and Gunnar was just being respectfully quiet allowing her to have a rest while he watched some tube. This went on for over an hour and finally, Traci had to wake up sleeping beauty. Overall, Traci said Rhylan handled Gunnar's tendancy to be bossy quite well - to which I commented, "she's used to it - she gets it all the time from Skylar."
So, because they both had GREAT behavior (why can't they ever have great behavior when they are together we will never know!) Chris & I took them for their favorite snow cone flavor at The SnowBall. They had a great night and went to bed a little sugar-squirrely, but exhausted. It was a good day for us all - even for Chris & I, since we met some of our painting goals.
