Ok. So every time praise is thrown around now, I think, "A giant worm is about to suck me into the vortex and I will never be seen again." ( Thank you, Sonny Sanborn, who excised his version of the Biblical passage regarding Herod being devoured by worms.) Why, oh why, did that metaphor even come into existence?
So, Skylar gets a 100++. I don't want her sucked in, so I rail on her handwriting.
So, Rhylan cleans her room unprompted. I thank her, but remind her that she is required to do that as a member of the family and, therefore, will not be receiving any compensation for her effort. I think she is safe from the worm hole.
So, I get "Thankful Mention" in the school newsletter and UGH, I am in danger of being sucked in. Worm! YOU STAY AWAY!!!!!
As a wise woman I know once advised, DEFLECT that glory that is trained on me or my kids and give it to the Lord.
Just for easy reference:
Acts 12: 19b-23
Then Herod went from Judea to Caesarea and stayed there a while. 20He had been quarreling with the people of Tyre and Sidon; they now joined together and sought an audience with him. Having secured the support of Blastus, a trusted personal servant of the king, they asked for peace, because they depended on the king's country for their food supply.
21On the appointed day Herod, wearing his royal robes, sat on his throne and delivered a public address to the people. 22They shouted, "This is the voice of a god, not of a man." 23Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died.
