Garage Sales and Summer in Texas Just Don't Mix

Well, we are finally over the garage sale hump, as it were. The girls (Skylar, Rhylan and their friend Charner), in their usual triumphant form, were not phased by the goings on and even made a little pocket money by selling lemonade to the weary garage salers. The adults, on the other hand, were completely drenched and like zombies by the end of the sale. Three long days in the 100 degree heat of Houston will drain the life out of even the most stalwart of people.

I have to commend my good friend Shari for her perseverence in staying out in the heat and humidity for the duration of the garage sale. What intestinal fortitude! Although she did not seem to sweat (she only glistens, as would be the proper and genteel thing to do in the South) quite as much as I did, I know she was still extremely hot and tired and brain-fried at the end of it all.

Saturday, the men helped and we were glad of it! Shari's hubby, Gary, our neighbor, Nathan, and Chris all helped to get the remaining stuff moved out. Gary's "buy a VHS movie and get a VCR for free" seemed to work well and we were rid of all but one of them by the end of the day. Chris demonstrated how cool a mullet could be at one point (yes, there was a blonde mullet wig in with the other fine wares of the day) and we did have a taker! Try as I might to get a photo, our camera chose that moment to give up the ghost... so I sold it for $5 thirty minutes later :)

So, all in all, the garage sale was a success. We are all a little worse for wear, but will recover. We have come to one conclusion, however: Garage sales and summer in Texas just don't mix. We will be sticking to a spring/fall schedule in the future.
